Chapter Ten: World Traveller

Jeff talks about moving from Memphis and wrestling in peurto Rico and Japan and having experiences with different languages and different types of fans. He found the respectful Japanese crowds especially odd.

NWA World Heavyweight Title

Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles

Jeff grabs a steel chair and won't let AJ in the ring during the Jeremy Borash's introduction. This is a very odd start. Don Callis and Erik Watts cometo ringsideto calm things down prior to the match. The crowd are giving both men a mixed reaction. They claw the chairs away from Jarrett and the match can begin.

They lock up and AJ wrestles his way around Jarrett before hitting a shoulder tackle, leading to a stand off. The commentators speculate as to whether Jeff is distracted by the Hogan situation. AJ scores with a cross body for two and they then botch a spot and AJ bumps to the outside. AJ avoids a baseball slide and closelines Jarrett into the crowd. AJ drops Jeff throat first onto the steel guard rail before returning to the ring and playing to the crowd. Well that was a very tepid start.

As if sensing the opening sucked AJ hits a beautiful front flip tope from the ring over the guard rail and into the crowd killing Jarrett. AJ attempts a springboard move but Jarrett dives and shakes the top rope and AJ takes a superb bump. Jarrett follows up with a catapult with AJ neck getting snapped against the bottom rope. Jeff scores with a closeline as the crowd begin to stir. Jeff runs into a back elbow but he manages to catch AJ on the second rope and he scores with a spinning back suplex. Jeff kicks away at the ribs of AJ. Abyss is looing on from the rafters, as is Raven, as Jeff hits a kitchen sink. AJ counters a powerbomb with a victory roll into the Styles Clash but Jeff counters and hits the pop up gutbuster.

Jeff calls for the figure four but AJ uses the ropes to get to his feet and scores with enzenguri. Both men are down. Slugfest, Jeff gets the better of it dodges a closeline but AJ counters Jarrett's closeline into a pump handle back suplex for a near fall, that was a cool sequence. AJ gets a hard Irish whips and the in a botched spot flips over Jarrett and scores with a German suplex for two. Someone should really tell Jeff how that spot is meant to go. AJ puts Jeff onto and the two men battle until Jeff scores with a TKO off the second rope, very nice, that gets a near fall.

Both men get up slowly, Jeff counters a spin kick with a leg trip and Jarrett locks in the figure four and AJ has nowhere to go. Sonny Siaki tries to interfere but Dusty Rhodes and Erik Watts won't let him interfere. AJ Styles manages to reverse the hold. Jarrett gets a chair from ringside and Jeff kills AJ with it while the referee is distracted butit only gets a near fall. AJ responds with a low blow and he puts Jeff's head in the steel chair goes up top. AJ comes off top with the flying leg drop but Jeff rolls out the way, Jeff counters a spin kick into a Stroke on the chair but it only gets a near fall. Jeff gets the tite belt but AJ gets a sneaky roll up for a near fall before Jeff clobbers AJ with the World Title for the 1-2-3.

Well other than for the historic purposes of Jeff winning the belt that was an odd match to pick. It was very sloppy and the pacing was poor, the finishing sequence was over the top but not as bad as on the first disk. Still it had some good moments and was less stupid than the previous title matches. (**3/4)

Chapter Eleven: Four Years Two Companies

Jeff talks about how both Jerry and Vince's business weren't doing great, Dutch Mantell joked you could fire a shotgun at a WWE show and hot hit anybody. Jeff talks about making the moves to the big leagues and for some reason talks about loving Country Music. Jeff and BG James talk about how they had the same personality and how they "clicked" with the country music gimmick. Apparently Double J the "red hot character" left the WWE because Vince want him to sing but Jeff thought this would expose his gimmick. NOTE TO JEFF: Double J was never a money drawing character, it was absolutely dire.

Jeff talks about touching Kevin Nash more than he touched his wife, erh...that doesn't quite work so well in text does it. Basically he was glad to be fired so he could spend time in his wife Jill. Jeff talks about how Scott Hall and Kevin Nash revolutionized the business. Jeff says he thought Nitro going to three hours was a tragic mistake. Jeff thought that over extension of the product was the big mistake. Jarrett makes fun of Thunder calling not a "B" show but a "C, D and E show".

TNA Clip: Hogan is in Japan and we see clips of Hogan vs. Chono and then the post match conference where Jeff Jarrett burst in and nailed him with a guitar and basically kicked the shit out of him backstage before Chono intervene. This was a pretty hot and memorable angle at the time, same Hogan never showed up and tricked TNA into signing all of his cronies. Oh well.

We then see a Jeff Jarrett promo talking about how he deserves a rematch for the World Title, Jeff says he overcame all of Vince Russo obstacles. Jeff says that Dusty Rhodes should him that you have to be a self serving son of a bitch, Well he certianly took that advice to heart. Jeff goes on to call Hogan a self serving son of a bitch. Jeff then talks about taking TNA to Hulk Hogan, he says he rained on Hogan's parade. The crowd chant "We Want Hogan" loud. Jeff says Hogan comes in and takes all the money, all the belts and all the credit. Jeff says TNA is a rocket ship ready to explode, Jeff says he'll be damned if he's gonna let Hogan come in here and Sink TNA. Tenay references Florida but Jeff says don't go there, don't ever bring that up. Vince Russo dives in the ring and tackles Jeff Jarrett.

Jarrett comes to the ring a few weeks later and ask Jimmy Hart to come out and announce his next challenger, the next road block on the way to Hogan. Jimmy Hart says this man has heart and he has desire, Hacksaw's music hits to possibly the worst pop in TNA history. Duggan says Jarrett needs an Education, and "EDUUUCATION TOUGH GUY", Duggan says he's loyal to his country, to his family and to his friends. Duggan says Hogan can fight his own battles but Duggan asks what kind of man would be better Jimmy Hart with a belt until he bleeds. "Jarrett its time to go to school, tough guy".

Jeff Jarrett vs. Jim Duggan

Well I'm not sure if five stars is really gonna do this match justice. Duggan stands in the ring playing to the crowd but Jeff sneaks in from behind and pearl harbours Duggan. Jarrett then immediately scores with a rope rider and a ten punch. Duggan no sells a hard Irish whip and explodes with three cartoonish closelines.

Duggan takes Jeff to the outside and introduces Jeff to the announce table before throwing a pumpkin on Jeff. Duggan continues to beat the crap out Jarrett and kills him with a chair. Duggan starts a "USA" chant allowing Jarrett to come off the second rope with two flying axe handles. Jarrett tries a third but Jim counters with a big chokeslam and plays to the crowd. Duggan unloads with a ten punch in the corner. Duggan scores with another sloppy closeline before going scoring with the three point stance closeline. Tenay and West are selling this like a career reinvention. Don Callis stops Duggan using the guitar and Jeff kills Duggan with a killer guitar shot for the 1-2-3.

Bloody hell that was bowling shoe ugly. (3/4*)

Jarrett says that was easy and calls out Hart asking him if that's all he's got. Jimmy Hart comes out and says you know whose in the limo but did you know whose in the Hummer. Jimmy says this man barks at the moon baby. The crowd start barking and Rick Steiner is standing behind Jarrett. Rick unloads with a sloppy closeline and they brawl through the crowd. Jeff and Steiner exchange weak chair shots as they work their way through the crowd. They make their way back to the ring where Rick counters a leap frog into a powerslam before scoring with two big closelines. Rick dodges a closeline and scores with a T-Bone suplex. Rick goes for the Steiner bulldog but Jeff pulls the ref in Rick's path. Rick checks on the referee allowing Jeff to kill him with a guitar, great sell from Rick, you don't get to say that often.

Jimmy Hart comes out and announces next weeks main event, It'll be Jeff Jarrett against a man called STING. Well that was actually some fun footage, reminded me of some fun memories of when TNA used to be that silly little fun show. Shame this feud was booked completely backwards.

Chapter Twelve: Changing The Deal 1997-2001

Jarrett talks about how WCW was never run right and as a third generation superstar he recognizes this. Hmmn...SO YOU KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH WCW BUT YOU WERE BOOKING THIS SHIT IN TNA. Jeff then talks about his wife, having to have a double versectomy and having her breast removed, I'm quoting this. He talks about his wifes cancer. Jeff talks about not meeting his downside because he was not booked. Jeff Jarrett talks about J.R. asking to have his contract cut and cutting a promo on Steve Austin on Shawn Michaels calling them blashemous. Jeff says that was the begining of the end of his time with WWE. Jeff talks about Vince not realizing that his IC champion was out of contract as he was tied up with the company going public. Jeff talks about signing for WWE, Jeff said he didn't have a beef with Vince he's a proffesional just with Jim Ross. Jeff says basically talks about sorting out his PPV money before he left, this sounds like alot of lying going on here. Terry Taylor backs Jeff's story about how they went back and forth over money. It sounds like Jeff Jarrett said he'd run off with the belt unless he got paid. I'd like to here J.R's version of this story. Jeff Jarrett calls J.R a pawn of Steve Austin.
.
Jeff tells a story about Jeff and J.R. walking through the crowd, and they discuss how he felt J.R. went back on the deal, he said that WWE change the deal on him a year in, so he's changing the deal on them. Apparently half an hour before the last PPV Jeff demanded that they doubled his money or he wouldn't wrestle the match and he'd just walk out. Jeff said he had a show down with Vince, Vince wrote him a check on the spot and Jeff went to the ring and wrestled his match with Chyna who doesn't know "her arsehole from the ground", he said they had a fun match witha great finish, he says Pat Patterson was a genius. Jeff said he went to Nitro the next night checked with Vince and he had his stock options.
.
WOW, that was the first really really entertaining segment of the DVD, fascinating stuff, the story was hard to follow in parts but its interesting hear Jeff explaining his side of the story for holding the WWE out for more money. Jeff still comes accross as a bit of a dickhead but his rationale seems solid, it wasn't an Ultimate Warrior style situation. It's hard to tell how much Jeff is using his wife's cancer as an excuse or whether it legitimately effected his business decision.
.
NWA World Heavyweight Title
Chris Harris vs. Jeff Jarrett
Boy oh boy remember when Chris Harris had huge potential? God seems like a million years ago, Harris has fallen so far.
The crowd is split, it seems like Jeff is a face but the commentators are selling Harris as the big crowd favorite. Jarrett gets an arm drag and then starts heeling it up. "Let's Go Wildcat" chant rings out as Harris powers out of a headlock, Jarrett gets a drop toe hold and he slaps the crap out of the back of Harris' head. The asylum crowd chant "Jarrett sucks", Harris scores with a hip toss and an arm drag but Jarrett brilliantly side steps and says Harris isn't ready. The crowd chant "You Still Suck". That was a really nice sequence. Jeff scores with a knee to the gut before Harris floats over but when Harris tries a second rope crossbody but Jarrett just dodges and walks away. Jarrett goes around ringside telling everyone Harris isn't ready.
Storm throws Jarrett back in the ring and Harris hits a tilt-a-whirl powerlsam, a roll up gets a near fall, a backslide gets a near fall and another roll up gets another nearfall and Jarrett has to bail. Abyss is watching from the top of the arena with his number one contenders contract in hand. Jarrett regains control and works over Harris in the corner.
Harris responds with a hard Irish whip and a running bulldog for a two count. Harris hits an inverted atomic drop and a short arm closeline. Harris then hits a dropkick before closeling Jarrett over the top rope and follows right up with a plancha. Harris whips Jarrett into the guard rail, Harris tries to run of the Steel steps but crashes and burns into the guard rail. Jarrett then introduces Harris to the steel steps before getting into Harris' families face. Jarrett goes to the top rope and hits a flying crossbody but Harris rolls over for a near fall. Jarrett comes back with an enzenguri. We see R-Truth looking on from the crowd. Jarrett scores with a double A spinebuster for a two count. Jarrett slaps on a sleeper hold but Harris counters by crotching Jarrett on the top rope, Harris then hits a horrible looking lariat.
Harris starts his comeback and hits a very sloppy full nelson slam. Harris says its over and goes up top but Jeff rolls out the way of the Death Sentance. Jarrett plays to the crowd before locking in the figure four leglock. Vince Russo comes to ringside with his towel in hand. Harris has been stuck in the hold for seemingly forever. Harris manages to reverse the hold and Jarrett can't make the ropes as Harris pulls Jarrett back to the centre of the ring. Jarrett manages to roll the hold back over and both men make the ropes.
Jeff tells Harris to get up and we have a big slugfest, Jarrett wins sluging Harris down hard and then bitch slapping Harris until Harris hulks up. Harris unloads and nails a nice flying lariat, Harris scores with a belly to belly for a near fall. The crowd chant "let's go Wildcat" as Jarrett bails to the outside. Harris closelines Jeff into the front row and then heads to the top rope. Harris then hits a flying closeline into the front row. Ouch that looked like Harris murdered his knee. Borash announces that if both men don't answer the count Jarrett will retain. Jarrett rolls back in and celebrates but doesn't see Harris return to the ring.
Harris scores with a hanging high vertical suplex, the crowd comes to life as Harris heads up top and scores with a flying elbow drop for a near fall! Harris hits some tame punches in the corner before going to the Catatonic but Jarrett counters and goes for the Stroke, Harris blocks and scores witha big Spear for a near fall! Then in the WORST SPOT EVER, Harris takes a hard Irish whip and randomly spears the referee, that looked so stupid. Harris hits Jeff with a chair knocking the chair that Jeff was holding back into his face that gets a near fall. Jeff then gets the title belt and kills Harris but only gets a nearfall! Harris takes the belt from Jarrett and scores with the Catatonic for another nearfall. Harris goes for the Sharpshooter but Jeff shoots him off and the other ref gets bumped. Jarrett scores with the Stroke, the first ref crawls over and we have another near fall. Jarrett and Rudy argue over the chair allowing James Storm to sneak in and score with the superkick. Harris rolls on top for the 1-2-Raven pulls the referee out and screams into the camera do you see me now Russo! Jeff then clobbers Harris with the guitar for the win.
Well that was looking like being the best match on the DVD so far until the overbooked finish inevitably came into play, the crowd were really hot for this match, the underdog against the cocky champion was a nice story and the match had some good and sloppy moments. Finish killed the match dead. (***1/4)
.
Chapter Thirteen: Vince Didn't Pay A Dime
.
Jeff, Booker, Sting and Russo talk about the fall of WCW. Booker says that the company wasn't broke and didn't need fixing but instead the bookers (they blame AOL) changed things around and everything slipped away. Scott says WCW and WWE fans were different and says the WWE never won over the WCW fans. Jeff talks about Bishchoff and Russo and says they suffered creatively because of the suits behind the scenes. Russo says he is god basically but when he found out the company was being sold he took his ball and went home. Jeremy Borash worked for WCW for three years and said he never knew who he reported too. Tenay said they kept getting their hopes up only for them to be crushed. Terry Taylor does a Kevin Sullivan impression and suggests they knew that WCW was sunk a year a head of time. Jeff talks about people making huge money and not even showing up. Booker says people weren't working hard and lots of people were being paid too much to do nothing. They say the problem wasn't just spending too much money on talent but not doing the right things with them. Sting talks about how everyone was against each other in different cliques, he says he was just as bad. Jarrett talks about Bash at the Beach as a disaster, he blames the people at the top of company. Booker talks about the Hogan angle and Russo's "heart felt speech". Booker says winning Ric Flairs old title from Jeff was the greatest night of his life.
.
Jeff now talks about when they found out the company is sold to Vince. Jarrett says he bet Vince didn't pay a dime for this company. Scott Steiner says this company was fucked. Scott says Turner was the best thing that happened to wrestling bringing TV shows and more money to wrestling. He calls Turner a real respectful businessman and Vince basically a scumbag. Jeff says Vince makes good TV and he actually loks back fondly of Vince firing him live on TV. Jeff's friend talks about sitting next to Jeff as they were fired on national television.
.
Well again that was an excellent section, there was a lot of bullshit being spoken, Russo is made to look like a saint but make no mistake this is must see stuff, just to see how deluded Wrestlers are about whats going on around them and their roll with in it. There was a lot of sucking up to Jeff going on here, Sting was very good and very honest about his role. Good Stuff.
.
NWA World Heavyweight Title
First Ever: King Of The Mountain Match
Chris Harris vs. AJ Styles vs. Raven vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. Ron Killings
I don't think I ever saw this match, I remember watching the first episode of Impact and seeing that they'd switch the title to Jeff actually maybe this match was just so insanely forgetable I blocked it out of my memory.
Killings and Raven get in each others face during the ring announcements. Russo is standing in centre being a complete deuche bag. Just incase you've never seen one this is a reverse ladder match where you have to hang the title belt to win but to have the right to hand the belt you have to have pinned someone, when you are pinned you have to send to minutes in the penalty box.
The crowd chant for "Truth", AJ dives off the ladder on the outside and unloads on Jarrett. In the ring Harris and Truth brawl, Killings hits a kick and dances until Raven pulls Truth to the outside. Harris hits a plancha onto both Killings and Raven as Jeff rolls into the ring on the other side. AJ leapfrogs Jeff and scores with a nice dropkick before getting in the crowds face. AJ then hits a beautiful springboard front flip tope over the red penalty cage onto Raven, Harris and Killings. Jeff uses this oppurtunity to try and get three counts on all of his opponents but they all kick out. Jeff weakly drops AJ onto a ladder on the ramp while Raven bulldogs Killings in the ring. Raven goes for the Even Flow but Harris dives off the cage with a flying closeline to break it up. Styles hits a snap suplex on the ramp while Harris knocks Raven off the apron into the guard rail. Jarrett throws AJ face first into the cage. In the ring Jarrett scores with a flying crossbody but AJ rolls through for a two count. AJ charges but Jeff gives him a droptoe hold and AJ crashes into the second turnbuckle. AJ brilliantly counters the Stroke into a side walk slam for a near fall. AJ counters the figure four with a small package for a near fall before getting a crucifix roll up into the Styles Clash for the 1-2-3. AJ Styles is Elligable, Jeff Jarrett is in the Penalty box.
AJ sets up a ladder but all the others stop him climbing and Raven brutally throws the ladder into AJ's face in a brutal spot. Harris hits a spear out of nowhere for the 1-2-3. Chris Harris is Elligable, Raven is in the penalty box. In the box Jeff begs off and tries to convince Raven to work with him. AJ tosses Chris Harris over the top rope and heads towards the ladder. AJ climbs but Killings grab onto the belt and both men fall down in a silly looking way. Jeff Jarrett is released from the penalty box. Harris drops the belt and reaches down off the ladder to collect it but Killings comes off the second rope with the Axe kick for the pinfall. Ron Killings is Elligable, Harris is in the penalty box. Raven is released from the penalty box. Jarrett gives Ron Killings a powerbomb off the ladder and sets in up in the corner. Jarrett throws AJ hard into the ladder and then Raven and Jeff throw Killings into the ladder.
Jeff kills both opponents with the ladder as Raven brings two tables into the ring. Jeff and Raven closeline AJ and Ron with the ladder before they slam it accross Truth's back. Jeff drives AJ onto the ladder face first. Harris is released. Raven is waiting for Harris and the two brawl outside the box. Raven gets a third table. Truth does the splits to avoid the ladder but Jeff and Raven turn it around and kill Killings. In a silly spot AJ jumps onto the ladder and brawls with both men but Raven and Jeff toss AJ over the top rope and the ladder falls on top of AJ.
Jeff tries to tell Raven what to do but Raven has none of it and gives Jeff a discus punch and a droptoe hold onto the folding chair. Killings gives Jeff a flying foreram as Harris hits a flying closeline on Raven. They hit simultanious ten punches before giving Raven and Jeff a meeting of the minds. Harris and Raven brawl into the back of the arena where Harris slugs down Raven.
Killings sets up the ladder and goes to hang the belt but AJ breaks it up with a spring board dropkick and AJ goes for the gold. Jeff tries a powerbomb off the ladder but AJ manages to Ranna Jeff over the top rope to the outside. Harris clears the ring and sets up the ladder. Russo throws Harris the belt and there is no one to stop him, Raven is so fucking late its ridiculous and he throws powder in Harris' eyes, well barely. Raven hits the Evenflow DDT for the DDT and 1-2-3. Raven is Elligable, Harris is in the penatly box.
Killings takes Raven off the ladder with an eletric chair snake eyes and then a knee lift sends Raven out of the ring. Jeff Jarrett then hits the Stroke off the ring apron onto the guard rail on Killings for the 1-2-3. Jeff Jarrett is Elligable, Killings is in the penalty box.
Jeff is alone with the ladder but Vince Russo won't give him the belt they have a tug of war Jeff wins but AJ rolls him up for a sneaky pinfall. Jeff Jarrett is in the penalty box.
Jeff beats the shit out of AJ before going to the penalty box. AJ battles with Raven before climbing the ladder. Harris beats the crap out of Jeff before leaving the box. Harris is released. Harris and Raven shove over the ladder and AJ is crotched hard on the top rope, that was an impressive bump. Raven has the belt and climbs but Harris goes to meet him. They brawl ontop of the ladder, Harris pounds the crap out of Raven and he goes flying off the ladder through a table! Killings is released. Killings shakes the ladder and Harris goes flying off the ladder through the table in the corner of the ring. Jeff Jarrett is released. Jeff sneaks up the ladder and nails Killings with the guitar, Jeff is the only man left standing atop the ladder. JEFF BREAKS THE HANGER!!! HE STRUGGLES TO FIX IT AND FINALLY HANGS THE BELT, WHILE EVERYONE LIES ON THE FLOOR LOOKING LIKE MUGS!!!
Well that was a pretty awkward botch from Jarrett at the end but the match was a heck of a lot of fun, started very very well but decended into a patchy spotfest. Some parts of the match were really good some where really horrible but there was enough good action and drama for this to be a success of a concept match. (***1/2)
.
Chapter Fourteen: Falling Off The Edge Of A Cliff
.
Jeff talks about Vince being Coca Cola and he just bought Pepsi. Jeff says Vince has everything, he said its crazy and we hadn't seen anything yet.
.
NWA TNA World Heavyweight Title
Gauntlet For The Gold
Hernandez and Ron Killings are the first entrants into the match up. Hernandez misses a closeline before Killings reverses a hip toss into one of his own. Killings floats over and dances around Hernandez before scoring with a flying closeline. Killings scores with a spinning forearm. Hernandez counters a crossbody into a powerbomb.
The next entrant is Onyx. Onyx and Hernandez hit and double shoulder tackle on Killings. They go for a double suplex but Killings counters into a double DDT and everyone is down.
The next entrant is Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett comes in and all three men stomp the crap out of Killings. Jarrett scores with a dropkick on Killings. Jeff then hits a very nice stalling vertical suplex before Jarrett and the Elite guard play to the crowd.
The next entrant is Konnan. Konnan unloads on Jarrett and scores with the rolling thunder closeline and then a face buster. Konnan rolls under a pair of closelines and hits a double closeline on the Elite Guard. Konnan then body slams Onyx onto Hernandez. Killings comes off top with a double low blow leg drop on Oynx and Hernandez.
The next entrant is Collyer. There's a lot of lame battle royal brawling going on here. Onyx hits a terrible closeline.
The next entrant is BG James. James unloads on everyone and hits a Manhatten drop on Jarrett and then scores with a pop up mule kick. BG hits Shake Rattle and Roll on Jarrett and then scores with a big boot on Onyx and the Stretch Arm strong on Collyer. Konan locks Collyer in a Dragon sleeper but ends up being tossed over by the Elite Guard. Konnan is Eliminated.
The Final Entrant is Ken Shamrock. Shamrock hits a brutal powerslam on Collyer, Hernandez eats a side belly to belly, Onyx is met with a high leg lariat and a side belly to belly suplex. Ken snaps and Jeff whips BG james into Shamrock and Ken gives BG a side belly to belly suplex. Ken unloads on Ron and they exchange strikes before Ken hits a brutal high kick. The Elite Guard manage to eliminate Shamrock while he's not looking, Ken strikes "OH FUCK!". Ken Shamrock is Eliminated. Shamrock goes nuts smashing the crap out of the set. Security finally manages to get Ken to back away but Ken takes down one of the security team and locks him in the ankle lock. In the ring Onyx and Collyer have been Eliminated.
Jarrett whips Truth into BG James and Hernandez and they bump over the top rope. BG James and Hernandez are Eliminated.
Truth hits a powerbomb and does the splits to dodge a closeline before scoring with the K-Krusher. The crowd chance "Truth" as Ron goes up top, Jeff manages to dodge the flying leg lariat and slaps on the figure four leglock. Truth manages to overturn the hold and makes the ropes. Truth and Jeff exchange lefts and rights. Truth places Jeff on the top rope and scores with his version of a Muscle Buster for the 1-2-Hernandez pulls Killings out of the ring. Jeff hits Killings with the belt 1-2-James pulls Jarrett off the pin. Jeff has the guitar but Shamrock comes back in and takes the guitar from Jarrett. Jeff begs off for his life, Ken looks completely insane and absolutely kills Truth with the guitar for the 1-2-3.
Well that was alright, quite alot of fun seeing Shamrock back in the ring and hitting all his signature spots, it does make you wonder if there's a place for Ken in TNA right now, depends how good a shape he's in. Decent action, the swerve finish was better this week as it fitted in with the character of Shamrock and didn't feel too over the top. (**1/2)
.
Chapter Fifteen: Lessons Learned
.
Oh boy that title makes me think there's a whole lot of bullcrap coming my way. Jeff says the first thing he learned in the WWE was how to deal with talent. Jeff says WWE has a whole department of talent relations, he says there are downsides but its very proffesional. Jeff says WWE was wrestling company first and a TV company second, Jeff says WCW was the other way around. Jeff said he kept his eyes open and learnt how to put a tour together from his time in WWE. Well not what I was expecting nice segment.
.
NWA World Heavyweight Title
Ladder Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Jeff Jarrett
Jeff Hardy is covered in Green body paint and runs accross the stage and brings the ladder into the ring. Jeff actually looks off his face. The crowd are rabid for "Hardy" he's not as over as Kurt was when he debuted but its still impressive. Jeff runs up the ramp during the ring announcement. He is completely out of it, the green paint is just bizarre.
The Jeffs brawl right off the bat. Hardy scores with a wishy washy leaping closeline. Jeff sets a ladder up in the corner but Hardy reverses and Jarrett takes two nice big bumps back first into the ladders. Jeff and Jeff have a tug of war with a ladder and Hardy sandwiches Jarrett in the corner with the ladder and runs up the Ladder and hits an utterly horrible dropkick. Jeff is completely unproffesional. Hardy closes the ladder on Jarrett five times before leg droping the ladder upside down. Hardy puts Jarrett in the ladder and stands on Jarrett and squeezes the ladder on Jarrett. Jeff then hits a dropkick to the face, well that was certianly different. Indifferent start.
Hardy climbs the ladder but Jarrett stops him and Jeff throws Hardy face first inot the ladder in an incredibly sloppy manner. Hardy hits the worst STO in human history and goes for the leag frog ladder leg drop but Jarrett manages to roll out the way and Hardy crashes and burns. Jarrett throws the ladder onto Hardy and then whips him hard face first into the ladder. Jarret drops Hary on a ladder and Hardy takes a terribly unconvincing bump. Jarrett then front suplex Hardy onto a ladder at ringside. "Let's Go Jarrett, Let's Go Hardy", Jarrett then knocks Hardy off the apron with ladder and Hardy lands on the referee. A REF BUMP IN A MATCH WITH NO RULES, WHY BOTHER!?! Jarrett beats Hardy with the ladder on the outside and Jarrett climbs to top of the ladder. Hardy is about two hours late and his missile dropkick barely reaches Jarrett just about brushing his foot. This is very very bad.
Hardy hits a front slam on a ladder and nearly falls over in the process, Jeff then comes off the top rope with a Swanton Bomb onto Jarrett on the ladder. Hardy climbs the ladder but fat Scott Hall runs out gives Jeff the Outsider's Edge off the ladder, Black shirt security then come out and forcibly remove Scott Hall. Hall says he's a good guy and sits at ringside. Jeff is up first and hits a chair assisted leg drop on Jarrett. Hardy tips over one ladder and rather than winning the match sets up the see saw spot. Jarrett puts Hardy on the rope, Hardy fights him off and leg drops the ladder sending it flying into Jarrett's face, he sold it brilliantly.
Jarrett and Hardy both climb the ladder and Hardy hits a flacid bulldog off the top of the ladder, that was just terrible. Hall pulls Hardy out of the ring and unloads on Hardy. Hardy dodges a closeline and returns to the ring to tip over the ladder, Jarrett falls short on crotching himself and hangs himself in the ropes, Ugh. Hardy now climbs the ladder but Jarrett tips it over and sends Hardy flying out fo the ring onto Hall. Hardy does the Chair Jump poetry in motion over the top rope onto both Hall and Jarrett. Well that was better.
Hardy gets the huge ladder and sets it up outside the ring. Hardy and Jeff brawl atop the ladder and both men crash and fall onto the ramp. Hardy took a decent bump, Jarrett's was not impressive, the ladder fell onto Hall. Both Jeff's set up ladders in the ring and both men climb, they battle and then Hardy low blows Jarrett and Hardy horribly botches the sunset bomb, they then try the same spot from the apron with no ladder involved AND STILL FUCKING BOTCH IT!!! MY GOD MAN!!!
Hardy climbs the ladder but Hall comes in the ring, Jeff hits a HORRIBLE TWIST OF FATE WHICH HALL SELLS LIKE A STUNNER, THIS IS SHIT. Hardy climbs the ladder but Jarrett has a guitar, Hardy kicks him off but Jarrett gets a chair and hits him with that instead. Kevin Nash's music hits as Jarretts on the ladder. Nash has two guitars, he gives Hall one, the music is still playing, Hall, Nash and Jarrett all hit Hardy with guitars and then Jeff gets the belt down.
That was horrible, I've seen some bad ladder matches but this was right up there with the worst. Jeff Jarrett tried to be proffessional but he was botching right left and centre, Hardy was off his face and complete disgrace to wrestling, no wonder Vince fired his arse. Its actually a tribute to how far Jeff has turned his career around looking at this match. Geez...there was so much wrong with this match beyond the usual complaints about selling and psychology this was just unprofessional indy level crap. (1/2*)
.
Chapter Fifteen: A True Friend
.
We start with Foley talking about seeing the long shot of the crowd and looking up ten minutes later and its still a long shot of the crowd. Jim Cornette said you could tell from J.R's voice that this was not a lie it was serious. Jeff Jarrett said he was in the bath room when Owen died, Jeff said he didn't know what was going on and just rushed around. Cornette said he could tell when he saw Jarrett's interview that it was bad. Jarrett said while he was giving his interview he saw a guy ontop of Owen in the background and he didn't have a clue what was going on. Mick Foley talks about running backstage and seeing Jeff getting ready for his match and finding it one of the most chilling things he'd ever seen. Jarrett said he didn't find out what happen until he went past the whole where Owen had crashed. Jarrett talks about finishing his match and demanding a car to the hospital, Jarrett said he couldn't get any answers out of the policemen who took Owen to the hospital. Jeff didn't find out until he made it to the hospital.
.
Cornette says it was like JFK getting shot and it was a surreal scary moment and he was glad he wasn't there. Jarrett says it was the kind of event you couldn't believe had happened, he refused to believe it was reality. BG James and Jarrett were going to room together that night, James says that those three where family. Jeff talks about Owen building his dream house and he was supposed to stay in his new house for the first time when he got back from Over The Edge. Foley said that Jeff's was the best speech on the Owen memoriable show. Mick felt that Jeff's promo saying that the wrestling business is cold and you don't have friends but Owen was a real man and a real friend, had put Jeff out of favour with WWE for shattering the family image of the wrestlers. Jeff explains that wrestling is more like alot of aquaintances not friends and not family, apparently Linda wasn't happy about this portrayal, but Jeff said it was true, he said Owen was his truest and dearest friend. Jeff said he always let Owen knew how he felt about him.

Overall Thoughts: Well that was a really good disk, the wrestling for the most part sucked but the story telling was superb, the insight into Owen Hart's death was touching and well done, and gave an intriguing glimpse of WWE attitude toward talent. The story about how Jarrett left WWE and holding the WWE up for more money was fascinating, definitely incredibly bias but you never get the other side of the story on WWE DVDs. The talk about WCW was cool too, they didn't tell you anything you didn't know but it was amazing to see how self deluded the talent was and still is. Booker T thought that they didn't need to change the Formula at all? So the n.W.o wasn't stale in 1999? Booking had nothing to do with it? Russo is a genius? Its amazing to hear them blame everything on Corperate suits rather than horrible booking!?! Whether what they frustrates or not this is definitely worth seeing to get the otherside of the story. Sadly they don't have footage for the period in question in this DVD which is a shame as some well chosen clips would have tipped it over the edge.
.
Wrestling wise the King of The Mountain match is indy-eske but worth a watch especially if you haven't seen one before, the Chris Harris match was pretty good up until the usual overbookathon. The Hogan stuff is alot of fun to relive more to laugh at TNA than anything else, and its nice to see Shamrock on the DVD even if its in a mind bogglingly forgetable match. Oh and if you want to know why I hate Jeff Hardy and think he's and unpredictable prick watch the ladder match. Sad thing is it wasn't as bad his last few matches in WWE, Shawn Micheals was his tag partner and he couldn't salvage Jeffery.
.
Forgettable wrestling, great storytelling, TNA do make good DVDs, Disk two gets a thumbs up from me. (8/10)

About this blog

This is your one stop shop of pop culture reviews I most specialize in Music, Politics & Film. I occasionally delve into TV reviews. I've got a Politics MA and a War Studies BA, I'm taking a year out before starting a Phd so when it comes to History and Politics I'm pretty well versed but I tend to keep this blog fun rather than serious.
