Uprising - Muse

So I have to admit United States Of Eurasia had me more than a little worried. It was all of Muse bloated excess at it's worse. While it was perfect for their devoted fan base for the rest of us it was a pompous wailing dirge. To be fair a dirge by Muse's standards is better than a good track by Maximo Park but it was a dirge none the less. So we can all breathe a sigh of relief, because first single Uprising is every thing we could have hoped for.

So after a Freddie Mercury style super ballad about American Imperialism we follow it up with a sci fi disco rocker about tyranny and thought control. Nothing says fuck the government, fuck the fact cats, like diamond studded disco! Well Matt's lyrics are always going to be on the silly side of things but this track is so danceable, so groovy that we can let all the pomp slide. I mean seriously I love the idea of a hundreds of indie kids in a club dancing to a doctor who style beat, working the handclaps and singing "They will not force us, They will stop degrading us, They will not control us, We will be victorious". Then a slight adaption of the doctor who theme comes sliding in. I have to take my hat off to Mr. Bellamy, he got the whole nation to put on a falsetto in unision and sing about Supermassive Black Holes now he's got us dancing to the sound of crimes against humanity, what a dude. So welcome back Muse, you've once again conquered the dancefloors of the nation with another camp slice of stomping glam. Proof that the revolution with be shown in glorious sequined technicolour!

(You might wanna mute the Lily Allen game before pressing play)

About this blog

This is your one stop shop of pop culture reviews I most specialize in Music, Politics & Film. I occasionally delve into TV reviews. I've got a Politics MA and a War Studies BA, I'm taking a year out before starting a Phd so when it comes to History and Politics I'm pretty well versed but I tend to keep this blog fun rather than serious.
