Dominos - The Big Pink

Sometimes you come to the realization that you've made a mistake. Not a big mistake, just a silly little choice, and you wonder why on earth did I do that? Well I came to the realization that I'm a complete and utter macaroon for ignoring The Big Pink, why on earth did I choose to avoid their music? I really don't know, I actually think it might be that their name sounds too similar to the The Band's legendard Music From Big Pink, but that has got to be the stupid reason I could possibly have come up. Well fear not I've learnt my lesson I shall never overlook a band based on their name again because Dominos is friggin' awesome.

Now that wasn't very proffesional was it? But this is a song that evokes an immediate response. It's sounds like the new wave of hippism wasn't going to live and die with MGMT, The Big Pink ride of a fuzzy wave of electro groove as they deliver their sure fire hook "These Girls fall like dominos". The vocals are fragile and there's an introspective beauty in the heartbreaking gloom. The rhythem section carries the track, and it grooves like euphoric a motherfucker, while the vocals become engrained in your head instantly. Psychodelia is really making a come back, The Flaming Lips are the grand daddies, The Animal Collective are the critical standard bearers, MGMT bring the hits and by the looks of it the Big Pink will be supplying the grooves and the hooks. Put simply Dominos will be one of the best and most immediate track's you'll here all summer.

About this blog

This is your one stop shop of pop culture reviews I most specialize in Music, Politics & Film. I occasionally delve into TV reviews. I've got a Politics MA and a War Studies BA, I'm taking a year out before starting a Phd so when it comes to History and Politics I'm pretty well versed but I tend to keep this blog fun rather than serious.
