I'm skipping the preshow and going straight to the main show, we're promised the debut of two former World Champions from another company to debut. This show has been extremely well hyped. Oh just incase you didn't know every match on Lockdown is contested within a steel cage.
We open with an excellent video package, it's introduced by a rather silly rap poetry version of bullet with butterfly wings before going into the video package proper. They put over the stories and feud excellently, especially Foley vs. Sting where the soundbytes and video footage are just blended to perfection.
Suicide appears in the centre off the ring magically and scores with a dropkick on Bashir. Suicide hits a weird running knee in the corner. Lethal hits Sucide with his foot to the face move. Lethal hits a hip toss and basement dropkick combination on Kiyoshi. Suicide hits an atomic drop and a leg drop on Jay Lethal, Creed back flips over Bashir and hits a Yakuza kick and spinning heel kick combo. Kiyoshi hits a Kobashi style chop drop. Suicide hits a closeline on Kiyoshi.
Creed and Lethal dropkick Bashir and Shiek simulataniously. Creed and Lethal hit the press slam bulldog combination on Shiek and then the back breaker russian legsweep combo on Suicide and then the camel clutch basement dropkick combo. Creed and Lethal hits a Death Valley Driver and Picture Perfect elbow drop for the 1-2-3. Kiyoshi is Eliminated.
Creed hits the rolling thunder closeline and plays to the crowd. Lethal Consquences hit a double flap jack on Bashir for a a near fall. Lethal Consequences then hits a suplex and flying cross body combination on Suicide. Suicide ariplane spins Creed into Lethal and then hits a Finley roll. Bashir then gives Creed the WMDDT for the 1-2-3. Creed is Eliminated.
Lethal unloads on Bashir with a series of chops, Lethal then hits the Lethal combination of Bashir. Suicide and Lethal then really blow a couple of spots. Suicide hits a series of corner closelines to a round of boos. Lehtal counters a Finlay roll into a crucifix for a near fall. Suicide then sends Lethal for a flip with a closeline and that gets a near fall. Lethal misses a Moonsault off the top rope and Suicide hits the Suicide Solution and Bashir sneaks in for the 1-2-3. Lay Lethal is Eliminated.
Bashir dropkicks the cage open and nearly escapes the cage or should I say Xscape. Lethal tries to climb out but Bashir catches him. They battle on the top rope and Bashir scores with a super back suplex. The crowd come to life, Suicide counters the WMDDT and runs Bashir into the second turn buckle. Suicide tries to climb out but Bashir crotches him and the two men brawl ontop of the cage. Suicide knocks Bashir off the top off the cage. Kiyoshi runs out but Security drag him away, Bashir is about to climb through the door when Suicide scores with a nice flying body press off the side off the cage onto all the crowd of security to Xscape.
Fine opener with lots of athleticism but completely forgetable, with far too many ring and absolutely nothing of consequence a straight singles escape match would have been much better. The match got the crowd going but is the first step towards burning them out. Fine but forgetable. (**1/4)
Daniels and Styles are backstage with Lauren and they are confident about the match but worried about Jeff's loyalties.
Queen Of The Cage
Daffney vs. Sojourner Bolt vs. Madison Rayne vs. ODB
Madison Rayne looks sickened by ODB. We get generic brawling all round to start the match. Daffney gives Rayne a northern lights suplex for a two count, Daffney then gets a roll up on Sojo for a near fall. ODB hits a double closeline on Rayne and Sojo. Daffney jumps on ODB's back but gets slammed down hard. Rayne lays in some weak punche on ODB before, Sojo and Rayne catapult ODB into the cage. The crowd are shitting on this match. Daffney gets a crossbody on Rayne for a two count. Daffney then gets a neck breaker on Sojo and then lays some stomps on Rayne. Daffney mises a second rope elbow drop.
ODB drinks some of her Booze and she hulks up. ODB gets a series of closelines cleans houses. She stacks the heels on top of each other and hits a Stinger splash. ODB gives Sojo the fall away slam and then does one of the worst Kip ups in history. ODB hits a spinning sidewalk slam for a near fall. Some terrible action ensues, Daffney hits the three handle moss cover family gredunza for a near fall. Daffney drives Madison Rayne face first into the mat. ODB drinks from the flask and blows Booze in Sojo's eyes and the powerslam gets the 1-2-3.
This had no place on PPV and Sojo Bolt and Daffney in her current gimmick have no place on television. These girls just aren't worthy or ready for PPV. EVERY WORKER DOESN'T NEED TO BE ON EVERY SHOW. (1/2*)
IWGP Junior Tag Titles
No Limit vs. L.A.X. vs. The Motor City Machine Guns
Everyone brawls to start before Naito hits a top rope flying corss body and a dropkick. Shelley then hangs Naito in the tree of woe and hits a series of running dropkicks before playing to the crowd. Homicide dodges a closeline and hits a reverse elbow. Naito's partner counters a cross body into a big powerslam. Sabin slips out of Hernandez's Border toss and hits a back kick and a enzenguri. Hernandez powers Sabin up from a sunset flip and then Hernandez hits a mosterous shoulder tackle sending Hernandez flying into the steel cage in a great spot.
Hernandez has Shelley in a hanging vertical suplex but Sabin makes the save and Hernandez hits a suplex on both Sabin and Shelley. No Limit hit a double dropkick combo, then a drop toe hold, led drop and senton combo. LAX hit a shoulder block, corner closeline combo. LAX then botch the Bow and Arrow spot as Homicider over shoots his senton splash. Homicide gets crotched on the top rope and Sabin hits a dropkick on the crotched Homicide. The Guns unload with some double team offence they then stack LAX ontop of each other and hit the flatliner missile dropkick.
Sabin scores with a Tornado DDT on Homicide. Everyone then hits a corner move on Hernandez, Sabin misses a splash and everyone takes turns squishing Shelley ending with a stinger splash from Hernandez. Hernandez gives Shelley over head belly to belly suplex. Hernandez hangs Yigiro on the top rope and Homicide hits a missile dropkick. Hernandez powers Sabin up and then hitts the over head suplex sending Sabin crashing into the cage and he drops and lands on his head. Hernandez then hits a border toss on Shelley send him crashing into the cage.
No Limit give Homicide a powerslam and a double military press on Hernandez. Yugiro hits a horrible looking move for a two count. Yugiro misses a diving head butt, and Naito misses a sky twister press. The Guns go up top and hit the combination leg drop big splash. Hernandez breaks up the pin and gives Shelley a half nelson suplex, Homicide hits a torpedo drokick on Yugiro and the LAX the give him the Doomsday 187. The guns kills LAX with kicks and then they Give Naito the Made it Detriot (Sliced Bread and Sitout Powerbomb) for the win.
That was a mess of a match, Indy style spot fest, but I liked it. Just a bunch of moves, but a fun bunch of moves. (**1/2)
We then get a lame Abyss and Lauren interview segment. Lauren's acting was insanely bad, funny though.
Doomsday Chamber Of Blood Match
Abyss vs. Matt Morgan
Abyss dodges a chair shot and punches the chair back in Morgan's face. Morgan comes back with a series of knee lifts. Abyss hits a avalanche and a running arse thump to the face before playing to the crowd. The crowd chant "We Want Blood", Abyss hits a side walk slam and tentitively picks up the chair. Morgan the pump kicks the chair back into Abyss' face. Morgan then throws the chair out of the ring and mocks the crowd. Abyss is bleeding already. Now Matt can go for a pin.
Matt throws Abyss into the cage and goes for a pinfall but only gets two. Morgan hits his horrible combination of elbows and then a shoddy dropkick before playing to the crowd some more. Matt lays in some punches on Abyss and gets his hand cover in blood. This is horrible. Morgan opens the black bag and reveals glass. Abyss bleeds all over the blood in a cool visual. The crowd chant we want Stevie. Morgan gets a glass spike but Abyss blocks it and scores with a terrible shoulder block. Abyss throws Morgan into the steel cage four times before hitting a chokeslam and going for the pin but the referee points out that Matt isn't bleeding.
Morgan comes off top with a flying cross body, Abyss dodges and the referee gets crushed. Abyss gets a shard of glass and smashes it against the skull of Morgan this is just crap, the crowd chants "one more time". We have the lamest slugfest in human history. Abyss hits the Black Hole Slam but there's no referee. Slick Johnson runs to the ring but Abyss only gets a near fall. Abyss looks shocked. Abyss goes out the door and gets the steel chair.
Stevie Richards runs out and takes away the steel chair. Mike Tenay looks absolutely shocked that Stevie Richard's is doctor Stevie. The crowd start a big "ECW" chant, Morgan hits the Carbon foot print for a near fall. Abyss asks Stevie for the chair but Stevie says no, no weapons, no more violence. Abyss gets another black bag and Stevie says don't you do it. Abyss lays out the thumbtacks. Stevie gets in the cage and starts Bitch slapping Abyss like mad. Morgan hits Abyss with a low blow and a choke bomb onto the tacks for the 1-2-3.
Other garbage another match that has no place on a PPV in 2009. (1/4*)
TNA Knock Outs Title
Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong
Love tries to escape straight away but Kong pulls her down immediately. Taylor Wilde goes nuts on Love with right hands. Wilde then throws Love into the cage hard. Kong offers to slam Wilde onto Love but instead she just slams Wilde onto the mat instead. Love counters the awesome bomb with a victory roll and then LOve and Wilde hit a series of basement dropkicks on Kong. Wilde and Love get in each others face, they do a pin fall exchange before Love hits a flying closeline. Kong catches Wilde and throws her hard into the cage. Love tries a takedown on Kong but fails miserably and Kong hits a huge choke lift on Love before scoring with the Giant Swing.
Kong stands on Love's hair and you can her Velvet Sky screaming no the hair at ringside. Love then gets tossed accross the ring, Taylor Wilde is the next to be tossed accross the ring hard. Kong then scores with a chokeslam and Kong goes to the top rope and goes for a Houston Hangover but Lover rolls out the way, the crowd chant "Holy shit". Love hits Wilde with a pump kick before the Beautiful People tie Awesome Kong's hair into the cage. Sky is brilliant at ringside. Wilde hits a flyign cross body off top and she has absolutely KOed Angelina Love, she is spark out and can't kick out. Wilde locks on a chinlock and Wilde looks confused, she goes to talk to Kong who kicks her and Love gets the pin.
Well that was a very scary moment at the end then, it looked as though Love could have been seriously injured. The impovised finish was terrible but they did their best in a bad situation. The match was going fine up until that point, I'll be kind and not punish them too much for the finish as it was very innocous it wasn't an obvious fuck up it was just a spot of bad luck. (*)
Team 3D cut a promo in the middle of a bunch of fans its pretty funny, worst line ever has to be "Welcome to Killadelphia".
IWPG & TNA World Tag Team Title
Philidelphia Street Fight
Team 3D vs. Beer Money
We start with a big brawl to start the match. Ray scores with an avalanche in the corner before throwing both of Beer Money out of the cage, the crowd comes to life big time with a huge "We Want Tables" chant. We then go to a split screen shot of the brawl through the crowd, but this is terrible as the screens are so small you can't see whats going on. They plod their way into the rafters as the crowd go mental. Storm fights Ray into a luxury box, absolutely nothing of interest is happening. Ray plays to the crowd. A big crowd has gathered to watch the fight and they shout "ECW" this is so 1998. Ray crotches Roode on the hand rail and he slides down as the crowd start a big "3D" chant.
Devon bites Storm as they slowly make their way down to ringside. Ray hits a headbutt, the crowd has turned into a mob scene, security is everywhere as they make it back to ringside. Storm has a drink by the commentary table and spits beer into Devon's eyes. Storm then slams the cage door on Ray's head. Roode drags the Steel stes onto the entrance way, they then set up a table behind the steps and they hit the Beer Money suplex through the table. Ray has been busted wide open and Roode unloads with a huge flurry on Ray as they return to the ring.
They choke Ray on the top rope and unload on Ray. Ray begins to fire back with some big chops before hitting a double closeline. Ray hits a body slam and goes up top but Storm goes up top to catch him, but Ray crotches him. Ray and Roode battle on the top rope and Ray hits the Super Bubba Bomb and the crowd go mental chanting "ECW" we then miss the near fall watching the replay. Storm then hits Ray with the Eye of the Storm for a near fall. The crowd chant for "Devon".
Devon makes the save and he powers Roode into the cage with a monster tackle, they then hit the 2D on Roode for a near fall. The crowd chant "we want tables" as the Dudleys hit the Doomsday Device for a nearfall. Roode runs into a back elbow and the Dudleys hit the Wazz Up drop on Roode. Devon does his dance and Ray smiles and says "1...2...3" and the crowd shout "get the tables". Devon gets the table and the crowd go absolutely mental chanting Tables.
Ray sets up the table but Beer Money recover and hit and double back suplex on Ray and then toss him into the cage. The crowd chant "We want Fire". Beery Money then hit the Samoan drop and Block buster combination for a near fall. Beer Money both go up top and then in a silly spot Roode misses and elbow and Storm misses a front flip senton. Roode hits a spinebuster on Ray and a neckbreaker on Devon. Storm readys the cage and Devon counters and Irish whip and Storm slams the cage door shut on Roode's head, he stumbles back into a 3D through the table for the 1-2-3.
Great crowd heat, this is a rare example of TNA delivering exactly what they promised, a bloody brutal brawl, not an all time classic but a match that didn't dissapoint and hit all the right notes. The brawl through the crowd got great crowd responds but made for terrible TV. However when they return to the ring it really picked up, sloppy in place but a satisfying tag match that delivered on its hype. (***1/4)
We then go to a Kurt Angle promo, its basically a pape face promo, for some reason he decides to list all the injuries and illnessess of the Main Event Mafia making them both seem over the hill and like sympathy figures.
Lethal Lockdown
Kurt Angle, Booker T, Scott Stiener and Kevin Nash vs. Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe
Kurt shoves Daniels to start the match and Daniels gets a leg trip and then stands on the back of Angle's neck before stomping down on it, that was a really nice spot. Angle gets an arm wrench Daneils rolls and slips and has to go to a double leg takedown to follow up. Daniels applies a leg scissors Kurt escapes but only into a side headlock, you hear Angle say "Hold On Don't let go" and of course Daniels doesn't when Kurt scores with a back suplex. Kurt has to run Daniels into teh top rope to break the hold. Angle then throws Daniels face first into the cage, Daniels dodges a closeline and scores with a palm strike before hitting the running leg lariat. Kurt runs straight into a big boot and Daniels comes off the top rope with a driving stomp to the chest, that was very nice. Daniels puts Kurt on the top rope and scores with the straight jacket bomb. Kurt fights back and hits a snap suplex and applies a chinlock. Daniels fights out and hits the Flatliner Koji clutch combo, Angle is tapping but of course pinfalls don't count yet.
Booker T is the Next Entrant. Booker breaks the hold and unoads on Daniels with a series of chops. Daniels dodges an axe kickand unloads with a jab flurry before hitting a leg lariat and some shoudler blocks in the corner. Booker Irish whips Daniels into a big European Uppercut from Angle.
AJ Style is the Next Entrant. AJ unloads with a series of closelines, AJ and Daniels then hit a high low on Booker T, then they hit a back suplex closeline combination on Kurt Angle. Daniels kills Kurt with a hard Irish whip, AJ then hits a snap suplex on Booker T and Daniels scores with a gut wrench suplex on Kurt. Daniels nails a hard closeline on Angle and then a reverse bulldog. AJ and Booker do a double closeline spot as the time limit expires.
Scott Steiner is the Next Entrant. Scott unloads with a series of closelines and then Scott hits the Frankensteiner on AJ Styles. Scott then hits a Steiner line on AJ Styles. Booker hits the arm wrencha and hook kick. Steiner hits the Steiner line on Daniels and follows up with the elbow drop before doing some press ups with Booker T in a nice spot.
Samoa Joe is the Next Entrant. Joe doesn't come out and we see Joe standing behind the curtain the commentators sell it like Joe is talking to someone, after about a minute Joe makes his way to teh ring and he gives Scott a T-Bone suplex and closelines for everyone else. Joe gives Angle a Tazplex and Booker a snap powerslam, Joe then follows up with the kick and senton back splash spot.
Kevin Nash is the Next Entrant. Joe big boots the cage door into Nash's face and then they brawl on the outside. Nash recovers and throws Joeinto the steel ring post. Nash gives Styles a choke slam and Daniels the big side salto. Joe unloads with a flurry of jabs. Joe hits a big kick on Nash as AJ hits Steiner with a pele kick. Daniels then hits the BME on Nash. Angle hits the overhead release belly to belly suplex on Joe and everyones down.
Jeff Jarrett is the Final Entrant. Jeff unloads to no reaction and hits a double closeline on Angle and Booker. Jeff hands out weapons to his team and the Front line unload with a series of weapons shots. We then go to a stupid six way screen split with teh logo in the middle and you couldn't see anything that was going on because the screens were so bloody small. Kurt Angle and AJ climb to the top of the cell. This match has become a complete and utter mess.
AJ and Kurt brawl ontop of the cage with a series of big rights. Kurt tries to suplex AJ off the cage but AJ blocks. AJ slugs Kurt and Kurt does a superb job of teasing falling off the cage. Kurt low blows AJ before returning to the steel cage. Kut drops down and hits Jeff Jarrett with an Angle slam, this match is just dead. AJ JUMPS THROUGH THE STEEL CAGE AND MANAGES TO MISS THE ENTIRE MAIN EVENT MAFIA. That was insanely funny. This match is just a total horrible life less mess. Daniels hits Kurt with a STO but Scott immediately hits Daniels with Side Belly to Belly. Joe hits Steiner with a muscle buster and Booker hits Joe with the axe kick. Jeff swings the chair and hits AJ by mistake. Joe gets in Jeff's face and Kurt sneaks up on Joe with the Angle slam for a near fall.Daniels gives Kurt the Angel's wings for a near fall. Steiner gives Daniels the Flatliner on the Steel chair leaving just AJ and Book standing, Jeff gets the guitar and hits the worst guitar shot ever on Booker for the 1-2-3. AJ gets the pin and Jeff's music plays.
Well that was a real mess and the least interesting Lethal Lockdown Match to date, aside from the big spot with AJ diving through the cage, the final minutes after the cage lowered were just horrible. The finish was tame and predictable, its a shame because this gimmick match is normally a lot of fun. (***)
After the match the lights dim and some unknown music hits and Bobby Lashley walks out! Angle looks happy and Jeff Jarrett looks shocked. The lights then go out and we go backstage.
Sting and Foley then cut two pretty lame promos. Mick changes the rules so the cage door will be locked, and they have to win by pinfall submission or escape.
TNA World Heavyweight Title
Mick Foley vs. Sting
Foley punches himself in the head until he bleeds and he then unloads on Sting with a big right hand and stomps down on Sting. Mick plays to the crowd as the blood pours from Foley's eye. Mick tries to climb the cage but Sting goes up to meet him and shoves him down hard. Sting climbs down and lays in some boots. Sting lamely grates Foley's face against the steel cage. Foley clubs Sting down and has a little rest. Foley stands around and listens to the crowd. Sting catches Foley on the top rope and gives him a back suplex off the cage for a two count. Foley blocks Sting and gives him a headbutt and then the slowest Foley flurry in the history of mankind. Foley tries to climb the cage but Sting charges and Foley's leg gets stuck between the cage and the top rope as Foley hangs upside.
Sting works over the leg with a series of kicks and stomps, yes kicks and stomps, Foley tries to climb out of the cage again and Sting clips Foley's leg and he falls from the top of the cage. Foley reverses an Irish whip and sends Sting crashing into the cage. We get more plodding around and we see the Foley is completely knackered, he's doing a good job of selling the leg. The crowd chant "Boring" and Mick hits a spinning neck breaker, FOLEY ACTUALLY USED A WRESTLING MOVE! The crowd are still absolutely dead. Foley can't climb the cage because his leg hurts. Foley then hit a double arm DDT after some plodding around.
After another eternity of plodding Mick gingerly locks Sting in the Scorpion Death Lock before Foley gets knakcered and drops the hold. Foley tells the officials to open the door but they won't do it. More plodding around doing nothing. Foley then hits a baseball slide on the cameraman and tries to crawl through the camera hole but Sting pulls him back into the centre and locks in the Scorpion Death lock, Foley crawls the whole in the cage and shouts "give me the bat Dirk". Dirk duely hands it over.
Foley swings the bat but Sting keeps dodging this is just embarsing to watch. Sting climbs the cage but Foley hits him in the knee with the barbed wire baseball bat. Foley hits him one more time and Sting falls from the cage. Sting recovers with a droptoe hold and Foley falls face first into the baseball bat. Sting gets the bat and he hits Foley in the gut and then in the back with the back. Sting then rakes the bat on Foley's face but Foley counters with a low blow.
Foley then hits the barbwire bat closeline and then the barbwire back elbow drop. Sting is bleeding for only the thid or so time in Sting's career. Foley gets the sock and wraps it in Barbed wire and hits Sting in the face. Foley then hits a running knee with the baseball bat into Sting's face. The crowd chant "Foley" and then die down to a lull as Mick slowly climbs the cage. They have a race but Foley wins by miles and hits the floor to win the World Title?
Well that was just absolutely horrible, slow plodding and embarsing, Foley can hardly walk in the ring. The hardcore stuff seemed tame considering what had gone before. This was just embarsing to wrestling. (*)
Overall Thoughts: This was a terrible show, not unwatchable just forgetable and weak. The Team 3D match was alot of fun and lived up to the hype. Lethal Lockdown was a real letdown but the shock of the night was Mick Foley winning the World Title. What wasn't a shock was the abysmally poor main event that Sting and Foley put on. Putting the world title on Foley is a horrible decision, its not 1999 he's not a draw and he's not even over. Worst of all he can barely walk let alone have a decent match, lets hope this is short lived, I imagine this just serves to give Jeff his show down with Foley. The undercard tonight was completely forgetable, the show while very newsworthy was very hard to watch. (4.0)
