Tatanka runs straight into a shoulderblock. Bam Bam follows up with another shoulderblock he tries it a third time and Tatanka counters with a powerslam. We go to a double crossbody collision spot, Tatanka bounced clean off Tatanka. Tatanka is channelling the spirit of the great buffalo. Bam Bam slugs Tatanka in the back of the head to put and end to that. Bigalow goes for the Moonsault but Tatanka rolls out of the way. Tatanka goes up top and scores with a flying crossbody for the win.
Well not much of a finish but a passable opener the crowd were into Tatanka and they were clearly conserving energy. (*)

Well that started very well, Bret's hot tag was horrible his offence was very weak, the finish was very good and played nicely into the story of Bret hogging the limelight. (**1/2)
.
Owen yells at Bret after the match as Bret struggles to his feet and then kicks his leg out and then shouts into the hard camera. "All he tag to do was tag me, but he's too selfish". Road Agents and medics look after Bret after the match. They try to get an interview with Bret but they can't and they are unsure whether Bret can participate in the Royal Rumble.
.
Tom interviews Owen backstage, "I thought I had the best partner in the world, but he's too selfish", Owen says Bret stole his oppurtunity. We see Bret being carried to the back looking on at Owen's interview. Well a convoluted finish that was but it was al part of the fun. Nothing special but an servicable title match. (**)
.
We then go to a video backage with Taker and Paul Bearer making Yoko's casket and a general recap of the fued, "Yokozuna, I don't make mistakes I bury them". Its pretty funny stuff. We then get Jim Cornette complaining about the contract. We then go to a clip of Yoko threatening to squash the casket when Undertaker pops out, and Yoko runs scared, great sell by Yoko.
.

Crush scores with a suplex and Double J scores witha second rope fist drop, Deisel gets a elbow drop and Bam Bam gets a second rope headbutt, Samu and Fatu both hit top rope slashes. They then roll Taker into the casket, close the lid and lock him in it for the win.
Well that was incredibly silly, but it was a million times better than a twenty minute singles match would have been and the crowd ate it up, the silliness however has just begun. (**1/4)
.
They roll Taker's casket up the rang, Taker's music hits and the green smoke comes out of the casket and the lights go out. Taker in the casket appears on the video screen and he looks angry into the camera. The soul of the Undertaker lives in all of man kind, and the ever lasting spirit, it cannot be explained, all of mankind will witness the rebirth of the undertaker, he will not rest in peace. The screen flashes green, then explodes and Taker ascends in green on the video screen. Then in the arena the casket opens and green smoke pours out and Undertaker levitates to the top of the arena. Paul Bearer re appears by the casket with the urn by the casket. The crowd go nuts as Bearer holds the urn up and wheels off the casket. Just incase anyone thought wrestling was real watch this match.

Bret and Lex Luger are left. Slugfest. Lex tries a body slam but Bret slips out and they both bundle each over the top rope and neither ref had a view of who landed first. Bret Hart and Lex Luger are Eliminated? They play Luger's music and then Gene Okerland is told by Earl Hebner that Bret is the winner and his music hits to a much bigger pop. They stop the music again and the two refs argue over which man has won.
Well that wasn't a particularly good Rumble, the start was below average but still decent, Nash's elimination streak was pretty awesome as was his encounter with Savage. Once those two went it was just boring and overcrowded until the final four, where it picked up and ended quickly the finish was pretty interesting especailly as the crowd unanimously chose Bret. Those two factors weren't enough to save a weak Rumble that the crowd weren't particularly interested in. They really didn't plan out any interesting spots, or confrontations aside from Deisel and Savage. If this rumble showed anything its that Lex Luger isn't Hulk Hogan. (**1/2)
.
After the match Jack Tunney comes out and decides that its a draw.
.
Overall Thoughts: Quite a memorable show for the big angles, Owen turns on Bret, HBK sets up the Ladder Match with Razor, the insane spectacle of Undertaker dieing and the controversal finish of the Rumble itself. Unfortunately the wrestling itself wasn't stellar merely solid throughout. So its hard to recommend this show but its also not easy to dismiss it, it depends how interested you are in big angles.

Royal Rumble 1993

The Beverly Brothers vs. The Stiener Brothers
Well this should be alot better than last years Beverly Brothers match. Scott tries a single leg takedown but Bo grabs onto the ropes. The Beverly Brothers bail and complain about tight pulling. Bo gets in Rick's face so Scott tags him in. Rick shoves Blake off the apron and charges Bo into the corner. The ref is distracted and Blake chokes Scott with the tag rope. Double arm suplex gets two. Bo comes in with a snapmare and the crowd comes to life. Bo cinches in a boston crab, Scott is about to break it when Blake comes in and scores with an elbow drop. Scott blocks a suplex and scores with one of his own. The Beverlys stop Scott making the hot tag. Blake scores with a second rope knee drop. Scott counters a back body drop with a butterfly bomb. HOT TAG! Rick scores with a nice back body drop and a killer realese German suplex. Rick dodges a double closeline and gives each man a closeline. Scott comes in and goes for a ten punch but the Beverlys counter and go for a Doomsday Device but as the flying closeline comes in Scott ducks and scores with a victory roll for two. Scott then scores with the Frankenstiener and Bill Alfonso counts the three, Scott dumped him right on his head.
Again nice fast paced tag team match, sloppy in places especially Scott. The Streak of Quality tag team openers continues for the Rumble. (**1/4)
.

Shawn gets in Sherri's face and waits for Marty to get to his feet before Shawn nails Jannetty with the Sweet Chin Music and Jannetty totally oversells it and that gets three. Sherri runs to the backstage area.
That was a really good match it start well and slowed a little with Shawn's unamaginitive armwork but there was good exciting action throughout, brilliant near falls and bumps at the end. Ridiculous overselling all throw out the match but it was all part of the fun. (***1/2)
.
Sherri is hysterical backstage, Shawn runs back to get in her face and Marty comes from nowhere and brawls with Shawn.

Clever finish, but again a bit dissapointing, as I was hoping for Four Stars but it is Bret Hart and Scott Hall both needed better oponents to raise there game. Still good match, it was wrestled a slowish Bret/HHH pace but had some dramatic nearfalls and hard hitting action. (***1/4)
.
We then get the unvailing of the Narcisist Lex Luger, Bobby Heenan can't pronounce his nickname properly. He's in front of a triple mirror and is eyeing himself up. Its mega gay.
Its really long, god what is it with Royal Rumble and gay segments. Lex says he's incredible, he's the most dominant force the WWE has ever seen, all other wrestlers will bow down before him because he is beyond perfection. Lex says everyone is impressed but the most impressive thing is when he steps in the ring, if Mr. Perfect has the guts to take the challenge. Bobby says this is the highlight of his career.
.
We then get Ceaser and Cleopatera, well the show was going so well up until the end of that Hart match its all got very camp. Ceasar reads a lame proclaimation about Wrestlemania coming to Caesars place to the joy of no one.
.

Well its just incredibly noticable the lack of major league talent or over superstars in the Rumble. The Steiners and Shawn could have done with being in the rumble to help it out. It started solidly with Flair, Backlund, Dibiase and Lawler providing some nice action and really picked up from there when Flair and Perfect went toe to toe, however when Flair went the momentum died, there were no fueds to play off and Perfect went soon after. Taker's elimination fest and the arrival of Hernandez was a pretty spectacular spectatle but once they left it was twenty minutes of pure jobber or low midcard talent and only really picked up in the closing few minutes with the Yoko Savage battle. Weak Rumble. (**3/4)
.
Overall Thoughts: A strong undercard but lame Rumble, the undercard somewhat makes up for the Rumble but not enough. This is after all the Rumble and if the one hour plus attraction match isn't particularly good then neither is the show. It just exposed the lack of big name talent in the WWE at the time, even with Savage on the card it lacked any real star power. Savage would go to commentary, Flair would leave the next night, and Hogan wasn't around, nor was Warrior. It just didn't feel special even if it set the Wrestlemania title shot tradition.

Royal Rumble 1992
.
We start with a graphic running down the competitors and it looks pretty awful with a few notable exceptions. The crowd are absolutely deathening to start show. Bobby Heenan is banking on Flair to win the Rumble, smart guy.

There was just so much going on in this rumble, there always moves being hit or stiff exchanges going on, only on two occasions were there noticable lulls and they lasted no more than a minute. There was great spats of action, and Flair sold like a pro and took moves from just about everyman in the Rumble. Great Rumble. (****3/4)
.
Hogan and Sid have a staredown. Flair is given the World Title by Jack Tunney, he says with a tear in his eye he can say this is the happiest moment in his life. Flair said this is the biggest title in the world, the only one that matters, the one that proves your the best wrestler in the world. He tells us all to pay homage to the man.
.
Overall Thoughts: Awesome show the openner was strong, the IC title match was a nice moment, the LOD match was passable and the Rumble was probably the best Rumble of all time. Only the god awful Bushwhackers tainted this show. Great stuff.

Royal Rumble 1991
.
We start with an American flag bizzarely and the national anthem. Then we go to the card run down the obvious thoughts are the Rumble line up itself looks weak, the rest of the card looks very strong Slaughter versus Warrior, The Rhodes brothers and the Rockers all filling it up so this could seriously be a strong show if the Rumble itself doesn't stink up the show.
Roddy Piper cuts a promo saying he loves the troop, this is going out on the sercivemans network.
.
The Rockers vs. The Orient Express
The express shove Jannety out of the the ring and then double team HBK with a double back body drop. Jannety comes in and makes the save with a dropkick and then the Rockers follow up with a double crecent kick and then a double team move that's kind of a flap jack into a body slam. Shawn tries a kick but its countered by a beautiful leg sweep. Shawn suddenly explodes and unloads in the corner he gives Kabusi a ten punch in the corner but suddenly switches to a moonsault press and kills Kaeto who was trying a sneak attack. The Rockers try to whip the express into one another but they do a ring around the rosary counter and try and whip the Rockers into each oter but the Rocker's jump over one another an attack the express. Some really great moments, and some slow spots aswell but make no mistake that was an excellent openner and a great way to get the crowd really into this event. (***)

Randy Savage is back stage saying that Slaughter has garenteed him a title shot when he wins the belt. Mooney asks Randy what about if Warrior wins, Savage says don't worry Sherri is baiting him. Sherri walks out to talk to Gene Okerland and says Slaughter is an honourable man and will be true to his word but Warrior is Hello from his head to his toes. Warrior of course arrives with out too much delay. Sherri says if your so honourable will you give the Macho King Randy Savage a title shot. He doesn't say anything, so Sherri says she's admired him for a long time and basically starts chatting him up. Sherri's looked at his lips and wondered what it'd be like. Sherri's wondered about his chest and she starts stroking his chest and back. She says she'd like to see him with the win blowing through his hair. So what's it gonna be is he honerable is he brave, what's it gonna be? She gives him a kiss, Warrior smiles, Sherri says its the most wonderful thing that's ever happen to him. Sherri drops to her knees, the crowd go apeshit and Warrior smiles. She asks about the title matcha again. Warrior then spits and starts convulsing and says "NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO". Barbarian goes up top again, he scores with a flying crossbody but Bossman rolls through for the pin and the win.
Well that was a very good big man match. Nothing mind blowing just a well plotted out match up, it had its slow moments when Barbarian was on offence but Bossman worked very well and the final few minutes were very strong. (**1/4)
.
Slaughter and the General cut a promo mostly in Arabic saying there gonna win. Warrior cuts a relatively controlled promo saying he's gonna win too.

Well it really really really slowed down in the middle but the action at the start was strong and the storline with Sherri and Savage and Warrior's near comeback was very dramatic. Fine Warrior match with an emphasis on crowd reaction rather than wrestling. (**1/2)

Well that was very crowded and very pedestrain for the most part getting slowly better as it went along and final few minutes were strong. Hogan ending was predictable but it was the happy ending the crowd needed after the life was sucked out of the arena by the end of the Warrior-Slaughter match. (***1/4)
.
Final Thoughts: Well the ending with Hulk Hogan waving old glory was incredibly cheesey but it was the correct ending to what all in all was the good show. The opener was very good, The Warrior match was fun, and the Rumble was nothing special but still a fun Rumble with a good finale. So not a must see Rumble but there's plenty to enjoy on this show. Oh and if you were wondering it was Savage who was number Eighteen, I believe Warrior was supposed to have run him off.
